Why we replaced NURTW Oru-West Branch leadership – Council Chairman Engr. Adikaibe

Executive Chairman of Oru-West Local Government Area, Engr. Ikenna Adikaibe said that the leadership of National Union of Road Transport Workers NURTW Oru West Branch was replaced to enthrone security in the area insisting there was no rift among members of the Union.

Fielding questions from newsmen at the council headquarters Mgbidi, Wednesday, the council who gathered members the Union at the council to show there was no rift among them disclosed that the former leadership of NURTW in the area was promoting Monday sit at home so we replaced them with a leadership that ensures people go  their lawful businesses on Mondays too.

In his words,’ on assumption of office I met with the leadership of NURTW Oru-West Branch and directed that they should be operating especially in Mgbidi on Mondays but they did not carry out the direction.

‘As the chief security officer of Oru- West local government area, I can’t sit back and allow the fight against insecurity launched by His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodinma to fail in my area. So like in an emergency situation we replaced the leadership with a vibrant one from among the members of the Union that is ensuring that Mgbidi is not lock down every Monday.

‘We believe once Mgbidi is opened for Monday activities other communities in the area will follow suit. As you can see that since Owerri metropolitan was opened for Monday activities other adjoining towns like Irete, Egbu, Obinze, Orji among others became live again.

Now there is always traffic jam on Mondays unlike before when Owerri was locked down.

‘Once there are vehicles ready to convey people to their destinations, people will come out and move from one place to the other.  Many Mgbidi sons and daughters abroad didn’t come home due to insecurity. But with the opening Mgbidi on Mondays every other thing is normalizing.

The council chairman insisted there was no rift among members of NURTW in the area adding that peace and other has returned to Mgbidi since the former leadership was replaced with comrade Emeka Ndubukwu led excos.

Lending credence, the newly appointed chairman NURTW Oru West Branch, Comrade Emeka Ndubukwu who stormed the council with over two (2) hundred members said his appointment has not only returned confidence to members but also supported the fight against insecurity in the state which the administration of Engr. Ikenna Adikaibe is replicating in the area.

In his words,’ we don’t have any rift in NURTW in Oru West. My appointment is supported by every member of the Union including the former excos. Since my appointment there has never been any rift. We are peaceful.
